Beowulf - The Octad Edition of only eight vellum bound copies marked I - VIII

Illustrated by Alice Cao

To be published late Summer

Beowulf tells the story of a mighty warrior who defeats the monstrous Grendel and Grendel’s mother before becoming king. In his final battle, he slays a dragon but succumbs to his wounds, dying a heroic death.

In 1895 William Morris together with AJ Wyatt published their translation in 308 copies. This edition is not a facsimile but an homage to that edition.

Book Details:

The Octad Edition will be bound in full Vellum and housed in an enhanced natural grain goatskin leather solander box. This will include a folio of the 18 letterpress illustrations and a letterpress plate used to print these.

The text is printed letterpress on 170 gsm Liber Charta mouldmade paper and the endpapers hand marbled and foiled. Finished with head and tail bands, the pages gilded to three sides in real gold

The colophon is printed on Joseph Bachelor & Son Crown & Sceptre paper created to the specifications of William Morris.

A 40mm diameter cast medallion has been minted with a dragon and a sailing ship and will be housed in the enhanced Solander box.

The edition of eight will be numbered I to VIII and signed by the illustrator.
